About Marlene Coleman...

Marlene Coleman is a native Texan born as a twin and raised in West Texas. After marriage and relocating to the Austin area over 25 years ago and starting a family, Marlene always found pleasure in applying her talents to the "ordinary" and making it become the "extraordinary". "I was inspired by an art teacher in high school and her impression and philosophy of art will always be carried with me", says Marlene. She goes on to say, "Thinking outside the box takes practice and bravery but it is so rewarding when you look at the before and after of a project and you and your client agree that you have done an awesome job. That makes it all worth while."

Marlene started out her entrepreneurship in apparel design. She began demonstrating her painted clothing techniques in trade shows and then moved on to publishing her designs and selling the instructional books to a local Michaels store. Expanding her business to not only publishing her books, she soon packaged kits of her designs and became a national vendor for such craft stores as Michaels/MJDesigns, Hobby Lobby and Garden Ridge Pottery.

"I never would have guessed that mosaics would have been my passion but I now know that it is my calling and I will never get tired of them because the world of possibilities is endless. I absolutely love to create mosaics." Marlene was fortunate enough to use her talents to create her own custom mosaics for a custom home she and her family built in 1999. You will see several of the focal points in that home on this website. This was her confirmation that mosaics are her passion. Marlene was quoted, "Our home is a show piece and I have my friends and family to thank for making this my business because they were so impressed and supportive."

At Custom Mosaics by Marlene, we work with designers and individuals to turn an ordinary area or object into a definite focal point. There is no limitation to tile. We can create a masterpiece with tile, glass, stone, china, or trinkets of memorabilia just so you, the client will be proud to show your home or office to everyone. Please take just a moment to read over our mission statement. But, don't stop there, we want you to see the whole portfolio. And after you do, give Marlene a call. We offer a free one hour consultation to discuss your needs. You can reach Marlene directly at 512-966-1862 or via e-mail at mosaicsbymarlene@yahoo.com.
